
INTRODUCTION
In accordance with the Energy Conservation Act 2001, the Government of India through the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) nominated the Chief Electrical Inspectorate as the State Designated Agency (SDA) for implementation of the Act.
As a statutory requirement of the Indian Electricity Act (IEA-1910 section 36) and as amended as IEA 2003 and the Indian Electricity Rule, the Chief Electrical Inspectorate in Nagaland was created out of the existing organizational set up of the Power Department vide government order NO.EL/ESI/91/83 dated 31-03-2003. As such, the Nagaland State Designated Agency (NSDA) for Energy Conservation was thus formally set up in the year 2005.
At the initial stage on 2005, Er.D Basumati was posted as the first Chief Electrical Inspector against the existing vacancy where it started functioning as a separate functionary from September 9, 2005 and various activities were taken up since then. The Electrical Inspectorate is headed by a Chief Electrical Inspector in the rank of Chief Engineer.
Nomination of Designated Agency
At present, the Chief Electrical Inspectorate in the state is headed by Er. K.T Wabang Ao, who under government order vide No.pwr/EST/DEPT-9/95 (pt-11) dated 13-07-07 took over as the second Chief Electrical Inspector. At present the organizational set up consists of the following staff members:

The functions and activities of the Chief Electrical Inspectorate are briefly summarized as follows:
1. Administration of the provisions of the electricity acts and rules.
2. Inspection of installations of the licenses HT & medium voltage consumers.
3. Inspection and issue of permission for commissioning of new HT installations including overhead lines and factories.
Carried out Inspection and certification of new electrical installation works convening L.T distribution, Sub-Transmission (11 KV & 33KV & EHV/HV works) executed by the Department of Power. Under the ongoing centrally sponsored scheme (APDRP) and state plan works, the inspectorate has inspected and issued certificate of clearance for the following works.

5. Prevention/investigation of electrical accidents and examination of causes leading to such accidents etc.
The Chief Electrical Inspectorate also generated revenue by way of Licensing/renewal processing fees and charges for inspection.
Matters relating to electrical incidents
Since the inception of the Chief Electrical Inspectorate, a number of accident related cases has been recorded and the matters were taken up for redressal.
